Eastbourne will have its own winter music festival to look forward to at the start of 2023.
Green Light Music is a collaboration between the Eastbourne Music Collective, Your Eastbourne BID and Eastbourne Council designed to showcase the range of musical talent in the town through a set of mainly free performances in a wide range of town centre locations.
Introducing the festival, BID Chief Executive, Stephen Holt, commented, “we are really proud to be supporting this event. It is a real winter warmer that will provide top notch entertainment for our residents and visitors, at a traditionally quiet time of year. We want to get people back out in our town centre and to support our brilliant shops and pubs put on a bit of a show.”
The festival will involve bands, covering a club mix of musical forms from classical to extreme noise, performing in five venues, including the majestic assembly room in the Town Hall.
Caine Hemmingway, for the EMC, which was set up earlier this year to promote new live music in the town, said, “Eastbourne used to have a vibrant live music scene that we are determined to revive at a moment when we are blessed with phenomenal talent working in all fields, from jungle to jazz. For too long, we have exported our talent by putting on gigs elsewhere and the time has come to bring it home”
Councillor Margaret Bannister, Cabinet member for Tourism and Culture at Eastbourne Borough Council, is also supporting the festival, observing “Eastbourne is on the up and we see culture as a key part of the mix. Developing a vibrant night- time economy is an early priority, and this festival is a sign of good things to come. Home grown new music on our doorstep. What’s not to like”
